PDFs are formatted for a fixed page layout, not flowing text. When you copy text, the PDF preserves the line wrapping as it appears on each page — even mid-sentence — because PDFs don't store text as sentences, they store it as positioned glyphs. That's why you often get line breaks in the middle of perfectly normal sentences.

The tool uses a smart heuristic: it removes single line breaks that aren't followed by a capital letter or don't look like the start of a list item. Paragraph breaks (double newlines) are preserved because they signal a real paragraph break. List items starting with bullets (•, –, —), numbers, or dashes are also preserved.

The tool detects soft hyphens (the invisible character PDFs insert to mark word breaks) and trailing hyphens followed immediately by a newline, then removes them and joins the word back together. So "con-\ntinue" becomes "continue" automatically.
