Frequently Asked Questions

How does the word counter work?

The word counter analyzes your text in real time as you type or paste. Words are counted by splitting on whitespace, sentences by detecting terminal punctuation (periods, question marks, exclamation points), and paragraphs by detecting blank lines. All processing happens entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to any server.

What is the Flesch-Kincaid readability score?

The Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease score measures how easy text is to read on a scale of 0–100. Higher scores mean easier reading: 90–100 is very easy (5th grade level), 60–70 is standard (8th–9th grade), 30–50 is difficult (college level), and 0–30 is very difficult (professional/academic). It's calculated from average sentence length and average syllables per word.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time uses an average adult reading speed of 238 words per minute. Speaking time uses an average speaking pace of 130 words per minute. These are statistical averages — actual times vary by individual and text complexity.

What is keyword density and why does it matter?

Keyword density shows how frequently individual words appear in your text as a percentage of total words. Common stop words (the, and, is, etc.) are filtered out. For SEO writing, a target keyword density of 1–3% is generally optimal — high enough to be relevant, low enough to avoid keyword stuffing penalties.

How many words is a typical page?

A standard single-spaced page contains approximately 500 words. A double-spaced page contains approximately 250 words. The word counter uses 500 words per page for estimated page count, which is standard for most academic and professional writing contexts.

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?

No. All analysis is 100% client-side in your browser. The auto-save feature stores your text in your browser's localStorage on your device only — nothing is transmitted to any server. Clearing your browser data also clears the auto-saved text.
